Starting Sunday, Aug. 1, drivers filling up their tanks at Shell gas stations across the state are invited to look out for the special “Giving Pump” to help ʻohana in the community. For every gallon of fuel filled at these designated giving pumps, one cent will be donated to Parents And Children Together over the next two months.

Save $0.54 per gallon on gas at the cheapest station in Wailuku

(WAILUKU, HI) For bargain hunters there may be no better target than gas, with the cheapest station in the Wailuku area offering savings of $0.54 per gallon. On Saturday the cheapest gallon of unleaded regular in the area was at Costco at 540 Haleakala Hwy . Regular there was listed at $3.55 per gallon Wednesday, compared to $4.09 at Shell at 137 W Kaahumanu Ave, which GasBuddy clocked as the most expensive station in the area.

Water Conservation Urged in South and Central Maui Due to Extreme Drought

The Department of Water Supply is urging customers in South and Central Maui to conserve water due to extreme drought conditions. County officials say reduced rainfall results in lower recharge of the Maui’s ʻĪao, Waiheʻe and Kahului aquifers and it takes time to rebuild the groundwater storage capacity, even after rains return. Surface water supplies for the Central Maui system come from the Wailuku River.

Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, Celebrated on Maui with Memorial Paddle Out

Today marks 178th Anniversary of Hawaiʻi’s First National Holiday, Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, or Sovereignty Restoration Day. Unique to the Maui celebration was a paddle out in honor of Kumu Haunani Kay Trask at Kāʻanapali Beach, which drew more than 200 participants. Trask, described as a “distinguished educator” and “fearless advocate of Native Hawaiian rights,” fought for self-determination for Hawaiians and was the founding director of Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at UH Mānoa. She died earlier this month on July 3.

AAA Hawaiʻi: Gas Prices Remain Steady

Drivers saw very slight changes at the gas pumps over the last week. According to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average is now $4.09 for a gallon of regular unleaded, which is the same as last Thursday, eight cents higher than a month ago and 85 cents higher than the average on this day last year.
