Motorcyclist seriously injured after crash outside of Lakeview

A Lakeview man was seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash in Stokes Township, Saturday night around 11 o'clock. The Logan County Sheriff's Office reports Michael Vogler, 57, was driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on State Route 235 North, near Township Road 240, when he approached a curve, left the roadway, and struck a guardrail.

Suspect in Lima bank robbery in court

LIMA — A Lima man charged with robbing a bank on the city’s east side earlier this year appeared in court briefly on Monday for a suppression hearing requested by his attorney. Steve Chamberlain of the Allen County Public Defenders Office is attempting to have statements made to police by Brandon Allen Sr. ruled inadmissible as evidence when a jury trial begins next month.

Oliphant gets sentenced to community control for shooting a woman in the foot

Lima, OH (WLIO) - 22-year-old Darian Oliphant was sentenced to three years of community control on the charge of attempted felonious assault. He was originally indicted on the charge of felonious assault with a gun specification but pleaded down to a reduced charge. According to his lawyer, there was drinking involved and they were passing the gun around. Oliphant says it was accidental. But according to prosecutors, the victim alluded that he threatened to shoot her in the foot. Oliphant was also ordered to do 40 hours of community service as part of his sentence.

Roses and Thorns

The roses found a way to sprout this week despite some muggy conditions and plenty of thorny issues. Rose: To the registered Republicans who came out in force on Election Day to vote in their primaries. In Allen County, 68.5% of registered Republicans cast their ballots in the special election that chose Susan Manchester as the next state representative. That number was 43.8% in Putnam County in the race that selected Roy Klopfenstein for the November general election. Auglaize County had the improbable happen, with more than 100% of Republicans turning out, thanks to 400 additional voters registering with the GOP. We’re always glad to see people participate in the process.

Weisenburger’s Pro Circuit season ends on a downer

Despite catching limits on two days, Kyle Weisenburger’s up and down season on the Major League Fishing’s Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit finished on a downer last week. The Columbus Grove bass angler had entered the event on Lake Champlain out of Plattsburgh, New York, needing a strong finish to qualify among the top 48 anglers for the season-ending championship.

Local gas stations sell alcohol to underage customers

Two local gas stations were charged with selling beer or intoxicating liquor to an underage person Friday night in Bellefontaine. Bellefontaine Police were conducting a compliance check investigation with the Ohio Investigative Unit (OIU) on multiple businesses within the city. The compliance check was to ensure businesses were confirming a person attempting to purchase alcohol and/or tobacco was not underage.

Man Rescues A Beagle From Being Euthanized In A Shelter, The Dog Can’t Contain His Gratitude, Hugs His Rescuer

Lots of abandoned dogs end up in rescue shelters, and some are euthanized if they have serious medical problems that are too costly to treat. However, man’s best friends don’t warrant such a horrible fate. All of the adorable puppies deserve to be cured to have a forever home as well as a kind, caring owner to look after them (chew toys are optional). Gregory, the Beagle, was nearly put down at an animal shelter, but his story had a happy ending.

DARE-ing outdoor adventures

Fishing, ropes courses, kayaking, swimming, archery and more were part of the DARE Camp 2022 that took place during the last two weeks at YMCA Camp Willson, 2732 County Road 11. Thirty fifth-graders from around Logan County spent time at the camp with Bellefontaine Police Department school resource officers Pat Tynan, Doug Walters, Allen Huffman, Isaac Chiles and camp staff. Campers learned about drug prevention, good drugs and bad drugs, risk verses reward, team work, leadership and being a good friend. Along with the lessons, students participated in all kinds of outdoor camp activities. “We are not sure who had more fun, the students or the SRO’s,” the officers said. (BPD PHOTOS VIA FACEBOOK)

Classes will be held on Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. for beginners at a cost of $22 for members and $40 for non-members for four classes.
