The Lackawanna County commissioners have taken the first step to begin a county-wide tax reassessment — with the approval of a contract with Tyler Technologies. The gathering of reassessment data will begin this summer with the new tax values to take effect on January 1st 2026. Tyler Technologies will be seeking local people to collect data on the county's real estate properties then begin contacting residents about properties they own in the county. Taxpayers will have the opportunity to appeal. The last reassessment in Lackawanna County was done in 1968.

DICKSON CITY, Pa. — A fight broke out Thursday morning in Lackawanna County, sending several people to the hospital with injuries. Around 3 a.m. Thursday, Dickson City police responded to a home on Grant Court, just off Main Street, for a fight. The police chief says seven people were fighting outside the home. Police arrested two people, and several others were injured.

GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A woman is in jail, accused of purposely setting a fire in Lackawanna County. According to police, Margaret Shafer intentionally lit a car on fire along Willard Road in Greenfield Township in April of 2022. Investigators say the fire then spread to a nearby building.

At the meeting of the Lackawanna County Commissioners this morning, a contract was approved which will mean a countywide reassessment will take place. January 1, 2026 is the target date for new tax values to go into effect. The contract was given to Tyler Technologies. Commissioners Debi Domenick and Jerry Notarianni voted for and Chris Chermak voted against.
