The deadline to enroll in the 4H program for participation in the 2023 Frio County Junior Livestock Show is November 1. The Texas 4H year officially starts September 1. Sex Offender Back Behind Bars For Not Registering With Police

If you're a registered sex offender, you can't just move around without telling the proper authorities. Members of a task force on Wednesday tracked down 33-year-old Jessie Phillips in Minonk. He was wanted in La Salle County for failing to appear on charges of registering annually as a child sex offender. Phillips will be charged with a new count of violating his sex offender registration. He was sent to prison in 2017 for the same charge.

Familiar Face Named New La Salle County State's Attorney

There's a new top prosecutor in La Salle County. Joseph Navarro has been appointed to finish out the term of Todd Martin who officially resigned Tuesday as La Salle County State's Attorney. Martin has been appointed to be a La Salle County circuit judge, a position he says he can't pass up.

Three Indicted on Charges in La Salle County

A La Salle County grand jury has indicted three people on a variety of charges. Fifty-nine-year-old Robert Bugiyne of Mendota is locked up on two burglary charges. His bail is set at 10 thousand dollars. Bugiyne was arrested July 22nd for burglary from a vehicle and criminal trespass to a vehicle. Officers in Mendota say they got him minutes after he reportedly broke into someone's vehicle near 11th Street and 6th Avenue.

Monkeypox vaccines not yet available in local counties

Monkeypox vaccines are in Illinois, but none are here yet in La Salle, Bureau, Putnam and Marshall counties because currently, only counties with positive cases can request vaccines. The La Salle County Health Department states that vaccines are only available right now to people who are identified by health officials as contacts to a confirmed monkeypox case. There are no reported monkeypox cases in La Salle, Bureau, Putnam or Marshall counties.

La Salle County's new COVID cases up slightly

La Salle County Health Department has recorded one coronavirus-related death in the past week. It was a woman in her 80's. On Friday, new cases tallied 274...compared to 259 last week and just under 300 on July 15. One hundred thirty-three new cases are age 39 or younger. The county remains in the medium community spread level as determined by the CDC.

$1 Million Bond For Accused Ottawa Cocaine Dealer

A convicted felon from Ottawa is back behind bars. Twenty-nine-year-old Anthony Brito Jr. was jailed on a warrant Wednesday. He's facing two felony charges of dealing cocaine in La Salle County. The alleged sales were done in March of this year. Brito Jr. is being held on a million dollars bond.

An experienced sheriff's deputy is stepping up to keep children safe while they're in school. Deputy Felecia Rasmussen has been assigned to work full-time as La Salle County's School Resource Officer. She had been working just part-time in this role before the announcement. Folks with UKA North America say they're moving forward from land acquisition to the permitting stage of constructing an 80-megawatt wind farm across the southwest corner of La Salle County. La Salle County Board selecting next States Attorney Tuesday

The La Salle County Board Chairman Don Jensen has called a full board meeting for midday Tuesday. The board will vote on a resolution appointing a new States Attorney. On May 26th, Current States Attorney Todd Martin was tapped to become a judge in the 13th Circuit. That becomes effective August 2. He'll be filling the position left by Judge Joseph Hettel who has been named to the Third District Appellate Court.

Sheriff's Office Investigator Praised For His Life-Saving Efforts

To protect and serve and sometimes save a life. That's true for at least one La Salle County officer. Investigator Tyson Szafranski is being commended by his peers with the La Salle County Sheriff's Office. Back on the morning of June 20th, Szafranski was headed to work when he came upon an accident on Route 23 north of Streator. He was told by witnesses a man was trapped inside a burning vehicle. Szafranski got inside the vehicle and got the unconscious man to safety.

INDEPENDENCE DAY, SOUTH TEXAS STYLE!

The Independence Day holiday was marked in Frio and La Salle counties last weekend with festivals at city parks in Dilley and Cotulla that included family-oriented activities, games, food and refreshment booths, toy and trinket vendors; and a rake of popular bands with live entertainment late into the nights, Saturday and Sunday, July 2-3. Performers at the Dilley City Pavilion included Mando y La Venganza, Los Tremendos Alarcanes, Nacido, La Calma, David Farias, Los Chamacos, Vision, Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers, and Lucky Joe. In Cotulla, bands performing at the La Salle County Fairgrounds Pavilion included Grupo Mettal, Zenzio, the Homeboyz, Tejano Highway 281, Los Garcia Brothers, and Solido. Foods cooked at the festival grounds included local traditionals as well as burgers and fries; custom-fashioned desserts included assorted fruits and mangonadas. Car chase ends in La Salle Co., lands 12 in jail

LA SALLE CO., Tex. (KGNS) - On Thursday night, June 30, a police chase in La Salle County ended with several people arrested. It all started near the Webb/La Salle county line near Encinal. The suspects led Encinal police and La Salle sheriff’s deputies on a chase for nearly 30 miles at speeds topping 120 miles per hour. It took tire spikes to finally stop the suspects.
