–The system used by Emergency Management Officials across the state to alert Iowans to a wide variety of potential threats is getting a bit of an upgrade. Kossuth County Emergency Management Coordinator Charissa Mueller tells KLGA News the updates to the Alert Iowa system will allow area residents to have more control over what alerts they receive.

–A traffic stop early Saturday morning near downtown Algona resulted in a pair of drug related arrests. According to the Algona Police Department, Officers conducted the stop around 12AM Saturday near the intersection of Phillips and State Streets. After conducting a brief investigation, Officers arrested 46-year-old Tony Lee Jorgensen of Humboldt on a valid Kossuth County Warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance-3rd offense, a Class D Felony.

(Swea City) – Minor injuries were reported in a two-vehicle collision in northern Kossuth County Sunday afternoon. The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office says at around 4 p.m., 86-year-old Mervin Johnson of Armstrong was traveling westbound on 480th Street in a 2014 Ford F-150 Supercrew Truck. Johnson had stopped at the intersection with County Road P20, about 5 miles northwest of Swea City. As Johnson entered the intersection, his vehicle was struck by a southbound 2019 Kia Sorento, driven by Lisa Hardman of Algona.

The Kossuth Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday morning at 9am to continue the path toward making Emergency Medical Services an essential service and slowly bringing all EMS programs under the county umbrella. The board has already made the declaration to do so and now will form an advisory council to look into the viability and funding.

A company proposing to build a carbon pipeline through Iowa has reached a financial milestone for the project. Summit Carbon Solutions is looking to build its “Midwest Carbon Express” pipeline starting with the Heartland Energy Solutions ethanol plant between Lawler and New Hampton as its easternmost starting point. The pipeline would then be built west through Chickasaw County, Floyd County and Cerro Gordo County, where the Golden Grain Energy ethanol plant near Mason City is a partner site, to capture carbon dioxide (C02) in liquid form eventually to an underground storage facility in North Dakota..

After conducting a brief investigation, Deputies arrested 67-year-old David Francis Brom on charges of Aggravated Theft, Trespass and Criminal Mischief.
