Sheboygan County Overall Receives Over $2.3M in Quarterly State Transportation Aids

More than $2.3 million in payments for local roads and communities for the first quarterly payments of 2023 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Governor Evers along with the DOT announced statewide payments on Tuesday, more than $134 million overall. Of that, Sheboygan County along with its townships, villages and cities will receive $2,300,615.91. For calendar year 2023, a total of more than $526M is to be sent to local governments for support of transportation-related projects, a two percent increase over calendar year 2022. According to Tuesday’s announcement, total funding for all local programs makes up almost one-third of the state transportation budget.

Portlight Homeless Shelter opens in Ozaukee County to house and help those experiencing homelessness

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A new homeless shelter is opening in Ozaukee County on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Family Promise teamed up with the county to open Portlight Shelter amid the pandemic, when more of its residents found themselves without jobs and homeless. Previously, people looking for a warm bed in Ozaukee County were either sent to local churches or given hotel rooms.

1/31/23 Wind Chill Advisory until 10 AM

A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for most of the area until 10 am this morning. Among the counties included in the advisory are Calumet, Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago. Wind chills could range from 20 to 30 below zero. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Pets should not be left outdoors. Limit your time outdoors and if you can check on elderly or infirm family members or neighbors.
