COVID-19 update: three deaths reported in state Wednesday, one each in Lake and Kingsbury counties

The number of people in the state who have died with COVID-19 increased by three again on Wednesday. Two of the deaths were residents of Lake and Kingsbury counties. Overall, there have been 1976 COVID-19 deaths in the state. The state Department of Health reported Wednesday just less than one-hundred new positive coronavirus cases, with active cases decreasing to just under fourteen-hundred and 102 people currently hospitalized.

Kingsbury COVID surge comes to fruition in April

HURON — The final day of April brought a chance to reflect on the numbers across the state from the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH). While the surge in cases in Kingsbury County took place over multiple months, the final results came to rest in April, and it set Kingsbury in a notable spot among the coounties in the state.

Tuesday COVID-19 update: one death reported in state; hospitalizations increased

One more COVID-19 death was reported in the state Tuesday. Yesterday’s reported death was a resident of Kingsbury County. Overall the state has reported 1961 deaths among residents with COVID-19. The state Department of Health also reported nearly 150 new positive COVID-19 cases Tuesday. Active cases decreased to below 18-hundred yesterday, and the number of people hospitalized because of the virus increased to 103.

New COVID-19 deaths reported in Roberts, Deuel, Kingsbury counties

The South Dakota Department of Health reported Friday five additional people with COVID-19 died, the largest one-day total in three weeks. Those deaths were in Union, Roberts, Minnehaha, Kingsbury and Deuel counties. Two men and three women died, according to the department of health. Two were in their 60s, two were in their 70s and one was 80 or older.

Active cases continue downward trend, Kingsbury County death reported

Active COVID-19 infections in the state are continuing to fall, the South Dakota Department of Health reported Tuesday, as one new death from the virus was also confirmed. The latest death of a person with COVID-19 was in a man aged 70-79. He was a resident of Kingsbury County, which has now had 15 virus-related deaths.

The Kingsbury County Commissioners declared the county a disaster Tuesday due to flooding and flood damage. The commission approved an emergency declaration submitted by Cindy Bau, Emergency Management for Kingsbury County. Bau reported that the state park manager at Lake Thompson reads the water gauge daily, and the water is going up one half an inch to one inch a day. Lake residents have gone through 25,000 sand bags so far, but the access road to their homes is under water.
