Last week: Fairfield beat St. John 50-0, Pretty Prairie lost to Pratt-Skyline 30-14 An eight-man football classic in south Reno County. The Fairfield Falcons are coming off a historic win on Monday, which was their first in 17 games. A win Friday would be the team's first pair of back-to-back games won since 2014.

KLETC holds event for naming of dorm in honor of Ed Pavey, retired director

YODER, Kan. — The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center on Wednesday renamed the KLETC East Dormitory in honor of retired KLETC Director Ed Pavey. "Buildings don't get named every day," said current KLETC Director Darin Beck. "Certainly, they don't get named every day at KLETC, just because we don't build buildings that often. It's kind of a rare thing and we've only done that a handful of times, so to have a building named after you at KLETC is a substantial thing."

'Focus' is key: Redemption for Pretty Prairie volleyball a driving factor in commanding season so far

BURRTON – There may not be a more fun and entertaining volleyball team to watch in Class 1A Div. I than the Pretty Prairie Bulldogs. With the postseason just a few weeks away, the Bulldogs are 15-4 as they look to close out the year with the dominant play they have been displaying all season long. Focus has been of the driving forces in Pretty Prairie's volleyball journey this season, and they have kept themselves in check, earning the top-ranked spot in their 1A Div. I for the last week.

Haven City Council approves agreement for land purchase

HAVEN, Kan. — The Haven City Council gave approval to enter into an agreement with the USD 312 School District to purchase land for a new housing development. The option to purchase agreement already approved by USD 312 calls for the city to pay $300 for the option to purchase real estate behind the school district office for $50,000.

Darrell J. “D.J.” Moore 1936 - 2021

CUNNINGHAM — Darrell J. “D.J.” Moore, 84, passed away Sept. 19, 2021, at his farm home near Penalosa, Kan. He was born to Otis R. and Gladys M. (Boyd) Moore on Nov. 2, 1936, at Kingman, Kan. He grew to manhood on the family farm and that is also where he spent the last 30 years of his life. He married Patricia Shrauner on July 8, 1962, at Elkhart, Kan. They shared 59 years of happy adventures.

MHS JV spikers take 3rd in tourney

GODDARD – McPherson High’s JV volleyball team took on bigger schools on Saturday in the Goddard Eisenhower Invitational, going 3-2 to take third place. The Bullpups were a 3-set winner over Wichita Northwest to open the day (19-25, 25-22, 15-10). They moved to 2-0 with a 25-23, 25-17 success against Goddard.

Hesston earns volleyball split

HAVEN – Hesston’s volleyball team bounced back from a loss to Lyons to defeat Haven on Tuesday to earn a split of the evening. Lyons defeated the Swathers in straight sets, 25-14, 25-18, but Hesston came back to dominate Haven, 25-17, 25-13. The split leaves Hesston at 1-2 in the Central Kansas League and 9-6 overall and it stays busy with a dual Thursday at Garden Plain.
