Historically Low Jobless Rates Continue in Rochester Area

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester area experienced a slight uptick in its unemployment rate last month but it remains at a historically low level. The latest jobs statistics from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development put the jobless rate for Olmsted County in May at 1.3-percent. That's one-tenth of a percentage point above the unemployment rate in April, which was the lowest ever recorded. Just two years ago, the rate peaked at 9.8-percent due to the COVID-19 economic shutdown.

Rochester Man Arrested After Witness Tripped Him

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man is facing a second-degree assault charge for allegedly pointing a gun at a group of people in downtown Rochester early Friday. The criminal complaint against 21-year-old Shan Fiorenza says a Rochester police officer on routine patrol witnessed the incident and was able to arrest the man due to the actions of a citizen. The court document indicates Fiorenza was running away from the officer when a person who witnessed what was happening stuck out his foot and tripped him.

Charges – Rochester Man Followed Teenager and Entered Her Home

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Conditional bail was set at $100,000 today for a Rochester man accused of terrifying a young woman. 31-year-old Martin Danielson is accused of following the 19-year-old woman home from a park and then entering her family's home while she was hiding in the garage. He was charged today with first-degree burglary and a gross misdemeanor count of harassment.

The 19-year-old told police she noticed a man staring at her at White Oaks Park Thursday evening. She reported to police the man followed her home and entered her residence. The man fled after he was met by the teen’s father, police say.

Police ID Teen Motorcyclist Killed in Rochester Crash

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)- Rochester Police have identified the teenager killed in a car versus motorcycle crash on the city's east side. Police say 16-year-old Jack Andrew O’Neil of Rochester and a 47-year-old motorist collided at the intersection of East Circle Drive and Northern Valley Place Northeast shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday. Police say the motorist was attempting a left turn onto East Circle Drive when he was struck by the motorcyclist.

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Police arrested a man for allegedly pointing a gun at a group of people in downtown Rochester early Friday morning. Officers responded to the report of a fight on the 200 block of Broadway Ave. South. Police Captain Casey Moilanen said the responding officers saw the subject point a handgun at a crowd he was backing away from and yelling at near the intersection of Broadway and 3rd Street Southeast.

Winona County Sheriff’s Office Asking Public’s Help in Seeking Missing Person

Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Winona County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing person. The sheriff’s office issued the alert for 65-year-old Thomas Mueller around 10:15 a.m. Friday. Mueller was last seen on Wednesday, June 22nd on County Road 18 in the Utica area. Authorities said Mueller is thought to be on his UTV, which was described as a 2019 or 2020 John Deere Gator 835. It has a fully enclosed cab with doors and a dump bed.

Twin Cities Targeted for Extra Traffic Patrols This Weekend
