Senior - Winter Track and Field Athlete – John Michael Tan

No one knows Jost Field’s shot-put circle like John Tan. Over the summer and through the fall for the last number of years, John has been in the back left corner of the football field, doing drills, gaining strength, and working on his form, to prepare himself for his senior year of Track and Field. John is currently one of the best throwers in Middlesex County, proving his determination with multiple metals this season. This includes John’s sixth place finish at the GMC Championships and a fifth-place medal with partner Vishan Budhan at the GMC Relays. The Relays is where John dropped a personal best of 45 feet, 2.75 inches. John looks to add to that by the time this season is over with the State Sectionals showing up this weekend. Great work John and good luck!

Five stories you may have missed last week

Good morning! With luck, you're reading this from someplace warm. We might not have had much in the way of snow this winter, but we sure got a blast of cold air heading into this weekend. And on top of that, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Groundhog Day, so that means six more weeks of winter. Of course, the calendar tells us it's about six more weeks until the first day of spring anyway, so...

Police brutality. When will it stop? (letter to the editor)

Of course, there are differences between what happened here and what happened in Memphis . . . Here, the assaulted victim lived, and mathematically, there was only a single police officer involved in the assault here rather than five. I’m willing to begin from the premise that in neither case did those involved wake up that morning with ill intent on their minds. I’m certain that before these events, all involved, victims and assailants, were “good people,” “nice guys,” model citizens, and their families were very proud of them. In the coming days and trials, we are likely to hear about how “out of character” their actions were, how they never displayed such behavior before, and how much they love puppies, you know, the furry ones with cute eyes.
