Of course, there are differences between what happened here and what happened in Memphis . . . Here, the assaulted victim lived, and mathematically, there was only a single police officer involved in the assault here rather than five. I’m willing to begin from the premise that in neither case did those involved wake up that morning with ill intent on their minds. I’m certain that before these events, all involved, victims and assailants, were “good people,” “nice guys,” model citizens, and their families were very proud of them. In the coming days and trials, we are likely to hear about how “out of character” their actions were, how they never displayed such behavior before, and how much they love puppies, you know, the furry ones with cute eyes.
