The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report that a subject was turning themselves in at the Jail on a Washington County warrant. Eighteen-year-old John Michael Harrill of Crawfordsville was arrested for violating his pretrial release for his upcoming trial for felonious drug possession and misdemeanor weapons charges.

Mid-Prairie Makes Move In Latest Poll

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team used recent strong play to continue their climb in the Class 3A rankings this week. In the latest poll issued by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, the Hawks are up to No. 11 in the state, from No. 13 a week ago. Mid-Prairie has won eight of their last nine matches including the tournament title over the weekend at New London, a four set Senior Night win over Tipton last week, and a sweep of Independence on the road Monday. The Hawks are led on the year by sophomore Dakota Mitchell’s 353 digs, fourth in Class 3A, senior Landry Pacha’s 228 assists and 151 kills each seventh in the River Valley Conference and senior Ella Groenewold’s 55 blocks, best in the RVC. Mid-Prairie will next be in action Thursday at rival Iowa City Regina.

ICRA Warns of Business Soliciting Veterans Across the State

–The Iowa County Recorder’s Association is trying to get the word out about a company soliciting veterans across the state. The company is offering to provide a service to veterans for a fee, a service which is already provided to vets for free. Kossuth County Recorder Karen Benschoter tells KLGA News the issue surrounds the filing of military records.

The Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting their Byways Specialty Tours through October. With available dates October 11, 18, and 25, spots are filling up fast. Proposed Goldfinch Solar Project Not Expected to Expand Beyond Set Land Use

The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) led an informational meeting in September between representatives for the newly proposed Goldfinch Solar project and the citizens of Washington County. The project will occupy over 2,000 acres of land in Washington County that 15 landowners provided in the county. The groups making up the project team for the Goldfinch Solar project are Bechtel Corporation, Conifer Power Company, and Stantec Environmental Consultants. The projected total cost of the project is around $250 million, and the project will not be started until a power purchase agreement has been finalized.
