A Kentucky radio announcer enters record 61st season calling college basketball games

Never mind the shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, defending and other routine components of a preseason exhibition game. Basketball history will be made in Kentucky’s exhibition game Friday night. That’s because Joel Utley will begin his 61st season as the radio play-by-play announcer for Kentucky Wesleyan College men’s basketball. That’s believed...

Elzy preaching culture in first full season as Kentucky head coach

(WYMT) - Last November, Matthew Mitchell stepped down as Kentucky’s head coach due to health issues. Kyra Elzy was named the interim head coach and now, almost one year later, she is settling in as the leader of the Wildcats. That sudden transition from an assistant to head coach was not an easy one, but she has finally instilled her culture in Lexington.

There's No Over-Looking Mississippi State for Kentucky Football

You don’t need me to tell you what’s a stake for Kentucky football–11-1 with an outside shot of the College Football Playoff and a lock for a New Year’s Six bowl game. The folks in the Kentucky Football facility don’t need anyone to tell them that either. They, like all of us, know what’s on the table. However, that can’t be accomplished until Kentucky wins in Starkville, something the Wildcats haven’t done in over 12 years.

Ask about this Kentucky basketball player, and eyebrows get raised. ‘He’s special.’

Wide eyes and words of astonishment are the response when Daimion Collins’ name comes up in Kentucky basketball circles these days. “He surprises me every day in practice,” fellow UK freshman Bryce Hopkins said at the team’s Media Day last week. “You penetrate, drive and throw up a lob, and he’ll put his head at the top of the rim and dunk the ball. It’s crazy to see. His putback dunks and stuff like that — it’s crazy.”

The Wildcats (6-1, 4-1 SEC), who are ranked No. 12 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and Coaches Polls, next travel to Starkville Saturday to take on Mississippi State (4-3, 2-2) where UK hasn't won since 2008.

Kyra Elzy is embracing change in culture for Kentucky WBB

“Culture” is a big buzzword thrown around athletics these days. How a locker room is held together, the bond everyone creates from the coaching staff down to the walk-ons, the day-to-day commitment, and on and on. New head coaches particularly lean on this word as a way to establish a team’s identity in the program’s next era. Mark Stoops has preached culture in football and John Calipari the same in men’s basketball.

Kentucky football: Surging Cats can't let success poison the well

Kentucky should be well acquainted with the phenomenon. For years, opposing fans (and probably teams) looked at the schedule, got to Kentucky, and thought, “Well, we beat them by 3 touchdowns last year. That’s an easy win.” But this time, it’s 6-1 Kentucky whose fans are falling for that same trick.
