First night of NIOSA draws big crowds ready to Fiesta

SAN ANTONIO — The heart of San Antonio was alive Tuesday night. Fiesta favorite 'A Night in Old San Antonio' NIOSA is back. It ends on Friday. Thousands packed 'La Villita' for night one of NIOSA, on Tuesday. It does look somewhat different this year. There aren't as many food booths and organizers are keeping track of the number of people they're allowing in at the event. Mayor Ron Nirenberg was part of the parade that kicked-off the event.

Bexar County Education Coalition sends letter to Gov. Abbott to provide funding for virtual learning

SAN ANTONIO — Seeing students learn this fall is going to start looking like the pre-pandemic days, that’s because the fate of remote learning isn’t looking so good. "I'll tell you and nobody more than me want our children to be back in person to remember why they love school, to see their friends, to see their teachers," San Antonio Superintendent Pedro Martinez said. "We just want to do it in a safe way."

Driver in custody after police pursue her for hours across southwest San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was taken into custody at a gas station on the city's southwest side following an hours-long pursuit involving San Antonio police. Around 1 p.m., a West SAFFE unit was assisting another SAPD unit when they encountered the suspect acting in a belligerent way at the 3600 block of Fredericksburg Road, officials said. The officers asked the suspect to leave; she did so but later came back and continued to act belligerently.

JBSA-Fort Sam Houston soldier found dead in car, officials say

SAN ANTONIO — A U.S. Army Soldier assigned to Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston was found dead late on Friday, officials with the base said. Spc. Craig A. Boylston, a 38-year-old Army Reserve member on active duty for training at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, was found unresponsive in his car, outside of his on-post lodging late Friday night, according to authorities.

The Grey Moss Inn Restaurant up for sale for almost $1 million

SAN ANTONIO — A restaurant known for its character and history is on the real estate market. The Grey Moss Inn Restaurant could be yours for a cool $950k. The eatery opened in 1929 on Scenic Loop Road, nestled in the tree-canopy filled area of Grey Forest. Grey Moss Inn is known for being booked well in advance on Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and New Years Eve. But since the pandemic began, the restaurant's last Facebook post shows a picture of the restaurant on March 10, 2020.

Reports: Becky Hammon now a finalist for head coaching job with the Portland Trail Blazers

SAN ANTONIO — Spurs Assistant Coach Becky Hammon is a finalist for the head coaching job with the Portland Trail Blazers, according to a report from The Athletic. This is not the first time she has been considered for a head coaching job, but, according to the report, this would be the furthest she has gotten in the process. It is also the first time a woman has gotten to the final stages of an NBA head coaching search.
