Rams set for two big games with Calhoun

Kemper Academy had a tough week in baseball last week losing two big games, one of which was to a district opponent, Sylva Bay Academy. Sylva Bay defeated KA, 16-4. The Saints quickly jumped out to a 9-0 lead after five innings, with Kemper not scoring their first run until the sixth when Landon Dixon singled to score Kix Wilson and Cooper Thornton tripled to score Eli Weaver and Dixon. The Rams were only able to record six hits which came from Casen Holmes, Blake Hutcherson, Wilson, Weaver, Dixon, and Thornton. The Rams gave up twelve hits and four errors.

Lady Wildcats take two wins over Newton

The Kemper County High School fast-pitch softball team swept a pair of games from Newton High School last week, winning both games by identical 13-0 scores. Neera Bell tossed a one-hitter for the Lady Wildcats who scored a single run in the first on an RBI single by Rodezah Smith and then added six in the second.

Kemper Homemaker Council shows state hospitality to visitors

Morning visitors to the Lauderdale County Mississippi Welcome Center were greeted with special treats on Friday morning, March 25. They were shown the true meaning of the Hospitality State by the Kemper County Homemaker Volunteer Council. Seven members of the four county Homemakers clubs were giving out homemade cookies to the constant flow of visitors into the center.

Kemper Crossing sewer/water project ahead of schedule

Ike Kiefer of the Kemper County Economic Development Authority told the Kemper County Board of Supervisors during their regular first Monday meeting that Greenbriar Construction was way ahead of schedule on the project to install water and sewer lines from the Town of DeKalb to the Kemper Crossing Industrial Park located at the intersection of Hwy 16 and Hwy 397 just west of town.

KCHS track teams ready for Division 5-2A meet

The Kemper County boys and girls track teams will return to Velma Jackson High School Friday for the Division 5-2A meet, the first step toward the 2A state meet April 30. The teams competed there last Friday at the Velma Jackson Invitational, with competition by seven 1A, 2A and 3A schools. The boys finished a close second with 108 points, three less than Port Gibson, a 3A school.

3 suspects sought in deadly Kemper shooting

KEMPER COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Kemper County investigators are on the lookout for three people involved in a deadly weekend shooting. Sheriff James Moore said Marquise Crosby, 26, was shot and killed while at a large gathering at a field on Highway 495 S. A 22-year-old woman was also shot in the leg. She has been released from the hospital. Sheriff Moore said Saturday night’s shooting was chaotic.
