The town of Scooba’s mayor and aldermen were sworn in Tuesday night though their terms of office won’t officially start until July 1. Craig N. Nave Sr. was sworn in for his first full-term as mayor. He was elected as an alderman in 2017, and became mayor when the post opened in 2019.

Kemper unemployment rate remains same for last month

Kemper County’s April 2021 unemployment rate of 7.8 percent stayed the same when compared to the previous month. But what a difference a year can make. The COVID-19 Pandemic was in full swing, causing unemployment rates to climb into the teens and higher across the nation. Businesses and industries were forced to cease operations and send their employees home to avoid infection. Kemper County’s unemployment rate in April 2020 stood at 13.5 percent which was below the state’s 15.4 percent and the nation’s 14,4 percent, according to numbers from the Mississippi Employment Security Commission.
