Innovative Intersection Planned for Highway 14 Near Dodge Center

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning to install a new intersection on Highway 14 between Dodge Center and Kasson in 2024. The Reduced Conflict Intersection (RCI) will improve safety according to statistics from the MnDOT. Residents are invited to a virtual meeting through Zoom on Tuesday, June 28 from 6 to 7 pm.

Police ID Teen Motorcyclist Killed in Rochester Crash

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)- Rochester Police have identified the teenager killed in a car versus motorcycle crash on the city's east side. Police say 16-year-old Jack Andrew O’Neil of Rochester and a 47-year-old motorist collided at the intersection of East Circle Drive and Northern Valley Place Northeast shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday. Police say the motorist was attempting a left turn onto East Circle Drive when he was struck by the motorcyclist.

Jordan, MN (KROC-AM News)- A 92-year-old man is dead and a 60-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a two vehicle crash Thursday afternoon. The State Patrol says Vernon Rutzen of Robbinsdale was traveling north on County Rd. 79 east of Jordan when he failed to stop for a vehicle traveling west on Hwy. 282 . The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Twin Cities Targeted for Extra Traffic Patrols This Weekend

St. Paul, MN (KROC AM News) - State troopers are planning to crack down on dangerous drivers in the Twin Cities this weekend. The State Patrol will conduct its second round of high-intensity patrols from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening. The first round targeted the Brainerd Lakes area last month, when troopers reportedly stopped nearly 800 motorists. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety provided a breakdown of the stops:

Toddler Dies in Maple Grove Crash

Maple Grove, MN (KROC-AM News)- Police in Maple Grove are investigating a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a toddler. It happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday in the 16000 block of County Rd. 81. A statement from Maple Grove Police says the two-year-old died at the hospital.

Rochester Man Arrested After ‘Shelter in Place’ Advisory in Lyle

Lyle, MN (KROC-AM News) - Mower County authorities say a Rochester man was responsible for a "shelter in place" advisory in Lyle Friday afternoon. Austin Police Chief David McKichan says the situation started with an armed robbery at an Austin convenience store around 1:50 p.m. A news release says an off-duty Austin police officer was driving by the business and noticed a vehicle that was parked nearby matched the description of a car tied to a robbery at a liquor store earlier in the week. The officer informed the Mower County dispatch center about the vehicle at the same time an employee of the convenience store was calling in to report a robbery at knifepoint.

Randolph Graduate Is Twins Hero

Caleb Thielbar, less than a week after his alma mater Randolph won the MSHSL Class A State Baseball Tournament got a save today in a much needed win for the Minnesota Twins. According to Baseball Reference.com it was Thielbar's first career Major League Save. Evidently the statistics were not updated when I checked them out after the game but the official box score did list a save for Thielbar.

UPDATE: 6/24/22 8:46 a.m. Police say the motorcyclist was a 16-year-old male from Rochester. He was traveling east on East Circle Dr. NE when a 47-year-old man attempted a left-hand turn from Valley Place NE. Police say the motorcyclist struck the man's vehicle in the intersection. Police are still investigating the crash.

Muhidin Abukar Sentenced For Role in Rural Rochester Murder

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The second man convicted for the 2019 "execution-style" murder of a Rochester man was sentenced this afternoon. 33-year-old Muhidin Abukar was given a prison term of just under 14 years with credit for the nearly 3 years he has spent in jail since his arrest. The other man convicted in the case, 25-year-old Ayub Iman, was identified by Abukar as the person who actually killed 28-year-old Garad Roble and was earlier sentenced to 27 years in prison.
