Owatonna High School Announces Athlete of the Year Finalists

The Owatonna High School Activities Office announce the top three finalists for senior and junior, male and female, athlete of the year. Those 12 will be recognized on Wednesday, May 25 at 5 pm at a ceremony at the high school. Other awards will include the 110% honor, O-Club members, and the Minnesota State High School League's Triple 'A' and ExCel recipients.

There Has Been A Big Addition That’s Been Added To One Faribault-Area Park

The Faribault Parks and Recreation staff had plenty of time on their hands recently during all of the rain that occurred to put together a HUGE chair that will be a part of Slevin Park in Faribault. Mid-Air Collision With Duck Injures State Patrol Helicopter Pilot

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the pilots of a State Patrol helicopter was injured last night when a duck crashed through the windshield of the aircraft. The State Patrol says the helicopter was returning to the Twin Cities after assisting authorities in Wabasha County when the midair collision occurred around 10:15 PM. The pilots on the helicopter were able to safely land at the St. Paul airport.

On February 22, 2022 Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed a Writ of Special Election following the February 18, 2022 death of Congressman Jim Hagedorn. The Writ states in part, "There is a vacancy in the office of Congressional Representative for Congressional District 1 of the State of Minnesota, caused by the unfortunate and untimely passing of Representative Jim Hagedorn on February 18, 2022. A special election is necessary to fill this vacancy to ensure representation for the citizens of Congressional District 1."

Plea Agreement Reached in Winona Murder Case

Winona, Mn (KROC-AM News) - A Red Wing man has admitted to a charge of second-degree murder in the commission of a felony. 38-year-old Sean Emmons was accused of causing the death of another man in Winona last September. The criminal complaint filed in Winona County Court in November indicates investigators were told by witnesses that Emmons had caught his girlfriend in bed with another man and responded by stabbing a man in the leg.

Bloomington Man Who Set Girlfriend on Fire Ruled Incompetent

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Ramsey County judge today ruled a Bloomington man is incompetent to face prosecution for stabbing his girlfriend and setting her on fire. 47-year-old Patrick Simmons was charged with second-degree murder for the death of 44-year-old Kelly Goodermont on March 15. He and the victim both worked at a St. Paul warehouse, or he allegedly attacked the woman by stabbing her multiple times before pouring a flammable liquid on her and igniting it. When police officers arrived at the scene they found her unresponsive and suffering from severe burns. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
