A teenager has died following a tragic accident at Utah’s Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. The boy, identified as 13-year-old Ian Spendlove, was digging a tunnel in a sand dune on Saturday when it collapsed over him, covering him in more than 6 feet of sand, the Utah Division of State Parks said in a statement.

A report by the Utah State Auditor is leveling some criticism at the Kane County Water Conservancy District over potential conflicts of interest. The report, released Thursday, was apparently sparked by complaints about the water district's efforts to build a golf course. Utah State Auditor John Dougall's office did not look into whether that project is appropriate. However, it did evaluate and find problems related to the water district's finances and conflicts of interest involving board members.

Excessive winds brought down overblown trees on power lines, causing multiple outages across Garkane’s service territory on Sunday night, May 8. Garkane crews worked throughout the afternoon and evening restoring the outages in Kanab, that affected multiple neighborhoods. In addition, there were outages in Orderville, Hatch, Spry and throughout Wayne County. Crews restored power to most of the areas by the evening time.

KANAB — A man charged with murder in southern Utah has died while in custody from an apparent suicide, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Jason Thomas Hager, 39, of Bigwater, Kane County — who was also known as Jason Thomas Bates — died at the Kane County Jail on April 7 from a suspected suicide, according to a prepared statement from the sheriff's office. How he died was not disclosed. Hager's death is being investigated by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the state medical examiner, according to police.
