Miss Kane County speaks up in the fight against cancer

Not many can say they’ve spearheaded a campaign against cancer before they were old enough to vote - such is the case for 16-year-old Maddison Patton, winner of the Miss Kane County Pageant’s Queen category. “I did my platform because my grandma was a huge part of my...

Lady Cowboys on fire and pushing harder still

This past week was a busy travel week for the Kanab Volleyball team. On Tuesday we traveled up to South Sevier where we went five sets with them on their home court. Kanab took the first game 25-20. Kanab barely lost the next one at 23-25. The third set we went down 13- 25 but the Lady Cowboys found fire and focus and answered back strongly, taking the fourth set with a score of 25-16.

Hidden Lake | Kanab

Hidden Lake, sometimes called Underground Lake, is a small, natural lake nestled in a cave on the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Even though this lake is on private property, the sanctuary allows you to visit. There is a narrow sandy road all the way to the lake, but we decided that it was a little too sandy for us to try in our van. We knew if we had to pull over to pass someone on the narrow road, that we’d likely spin our tires into that sand and need help getting out. We wouldn’t recommend a car on this road. But we do recommend visiting Hidden Lake in Kanab.

The Toadstools Hike | Kanab

The Toadstools Hike is located just east of Kanab. It is a short walk to a very interesting hoodoo inside of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. This flat, easy 1.5 mile walk is appropriate for all age levels, but make sure to bring sunscreen, water, and a hat as it can be brutally hot in this area of the state. There is no shade anywhere along the trail.

Kanab, Arizona Utah Border, USA By Mary Henry

There is a viewpoint outside of Fredonia, AZ, looking north across the Utah border and this fall day had a fantastic storm in the distance. It was a mix of moving and changing cloud cover, visible distant rain, and visions of muted colors across the high desert floor and into the outlying mountains east of Kanab, Utah.

Nearly 50 years of flowers and decor – celebrating Sandy Wilkey and Kanab Floral

On February 10, 1974, a small flower shop opened up out of the dining room of the Wilkey house in Kanab. “I opened my floral shop because at the time there was no dedicated place to get flowers in Kanab.” Sandy Wilkey explains her reasoning for founding her flower shop in the first place. “Sure, you could go to the drug store and put in an order … but they’d have to send all the way to St. George for it.”
