Man heading to trial in Kalamazoo fatal shooting case, after 18 months of delays

KALAMAZOO, MI – A Kalamazoo man is heading toward a jury trial in the case of a fatal shooting more than 18 months after his arrest. Scott Kenneth Jones, 36, had an in-person preliminary hearing Sept. 17 before Kalamazoo County District Judge Christopher Haenicke. Jones was bound over to Circuit Court one on felony count of open murder and felony firearms. One count each of felony firearms and possession of a firearm by a felon were dismissed when the case was bound over.

‘I pray you never forget,’ says aunt of student killed at Kalamazoo facility as nurse is sentenced for child abuse

KALAMAZOO, MI – The former director of nursing at Lakeside Academy was sentenced to probation Monday after the death of a student at the facility in April 2020. Heather McLogan, 49, was sentenced to 18 months of probation for one felony count of third-degree child abuse before Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge Gary Giguere. She accepted a plea deal July 29, in which the prosecutor agreed to dismiss charges of involuntary manslaughter and one felony charge of second-degree child abuse causing death at a childcare organization.

In the end, Santoni ruled that Shaw’s case be sent to Kalamazoo County Circuit Court because there was probable cause Shaw was involved.

Former nurse sentenced to probation in death of Lakeside teen

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The nurse charged in the death of Cornelius Fredericks was sentenced Monday at Kalamazoo County Courthouse. Heather McLogan, who was the director of nursing at the time of Fredericks’ death at Lakeside Academy, was sentenced to 18 months probation on child abuse 3rd degree, the prosecutor's office confirmed.
