Betty L. Muerhoff, 97, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 7:58 PM at The Kensington. She was born on October 19, 1924 in Keokuk to Charles Sr. and Ida McDonald Baldock. On October 3, 1946 Betty married Vincent F. Muerhoff in Keokuk, who passed away on April 1, 1971. Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Church where she was very active, the Altar & Rosary Society and VFW Auxiliary. Betty was a US Navy Veteran during WWII where she served in the WAVES. She enjoyed camping, sewing, and cooking, especially mincemeat for God’s Portion Day.

Northeast Missouri man hurt when minibike slams into parked vehicle

WAYLAND, Mo. — A northeast Missouri man was injured when his minibike hit a parked vehicle. It happened at 8:45 p.m. Saturday on North Main Street in Wayland, Missouri. State troopers said a minibike operated by Shane McWilliams, 43, of Wayland, veered off the right side of the street and slammed into a parked vehicle.

Fort Madison area boy hospitalized after incident at pool

Fort Madison, IA- A Fort Madison area boy was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa city following an incident at the Fort Madison pool. The Pen City Current reports that emergency crews responded to the pool at about 2:15 PM Saturday when the boy was being pulled from the pool by an adult.

Michael Rae Roach, 70, Fort Madison, Iowa died Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. He was born August 20, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, a son of Donald David and Grace Marie (Boeddecker) Roach. He married Sharon Kay Bartlett, together they had two children, Kristi and Dan. They divorced. On March 22, 2005, he married Patricia Ann Sarrazin. She survives.

Mary Lou Fernetti, 90, of Niota, Illinois, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022 at The Kensington in Fort Madison Iowa, surrounded by her family. Mary Lou was born on January 24, 1932 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Wilda (Hummel) Siegrist. Early in life she married Bruce Currless. They later divorced. On August 25, 1956 she married Buonavetia Doray “Jocko” Fernetti in Nauvoo. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2012.

Area boy hospitalized after incident at FM pool

FORT MADISON - An area youth was taken to area hospitals and then to hospitals in Iowa City after being pulled from the Fort Madison swimming pool Saturday afternoon. Emergency crews responded to the pool at just after 2:15 p.m. when the boy, who is not being identified at this time, was pulled by an adult male who saw the child at the bottom of the pool.
