Gatchell’s Living History Day Saturday

The Johnson County Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum in Buffalo will again be offering their Living History Day this Saturday on the museum grounds. Featured performances by the Basque Dancers, Native American dancers and frontier musicians, as well as demonstrations by a frontier blacksmith, a leather tooler, quilters, and gold panning will be available for the public to see.

The third annual Johnson County Weed and Pest weed pull day was held Friday, June 11, 2021 both in Kaycee and Buffalo as local and state wide organizations drew out community members to assist in the removal of noxious weeds around the county. Participants spread out both to their own locations, if they had ideas, or to a few provided locations like the archery course west of town. Over the course of the day, more than 1,200 pounds of weeds were uprooted and removed from around the county.

Robinson Fire Update for 6-16-21 & Partial Fire Ban for Johnson Co.

The Robinson Canyon fire has now consumed slightly more than a thousand acres and containment was at 29% as of yesterday morning. Firefighters are patrolling for hot spots and are beginning mopping up actions. Structure assessments are being conducted in Dull Knife and are complete in the Billy Creek, Poison Creek, and Bull Creek areas. No structures have been damaged.

Johnson County Faces Sanction As It Looks To Retrieve Back-Taxes

Johnson County is facing a new hurdle as it tries to receive more than $20 million in back-taxes from a coal-bed methane producer. The northeastern Wyoming county filed a lawsuit against Carbon Creek Energy, LCC in November 2020 in order to receive unpaid production taxes dating back to 2016. Carbon Creek is the operator of US Realm Powder River's coal-bed methane wells, a company that’s in an ongoing bankruptcy case.

BLM Wyoming issue fire restrictions as Campbell, Johnson County deal with blazes

CASPER, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management Wyoming have issued fire restrictions in Campbell and Johnson County that will take effect starting Tuesday, June 15. The north central and northeast part of the state has been hardest hit by wildfires early in the season in Wyoming, as shown by the Rocky Mountain Geographic Area Coordination Center map. That includes the Robinson Fire south of Buffalo, which fire managers said Monday had been mapped at 687 acres and was estimated at 18% contained.
