Police reveal cause of death for rural Galena couple discovered dead in home

GALENA, Ill. — The Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office on Friday, May 13 revealed the cause of death for a couple discovered in a rural Galena home back in February. According to a report from the sheriff's office, police received a report of a deceased couple found dead on Feb. 13. Upon arriving on the scene, the Jo Daviess County coroner confirmed the couple, Dan and Debra Welp, were deceased.

Apple River Woman Injured In Crash

A woman was airlifted for medical treatment after a crash Sunday in Jo Daviess County. According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, 42 year old Jennifer Forsberg of Apple River was taken by ambulance to a hospital and then airlifted to Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. The crash occurred at about 1pm Sunday on East Stagecoach Trail near North Hodgin Road in rural Apple River. A report says that Forsberg was driving west when her vehicle veered off the roadway to the north, veered back across the roadway to the south and crashed into a small creek.

Sheriff’s office releases causes of death of two people found dead in February

The causes of death for two people in their 60s found dead in February have been released from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. Danny Welp, 62, and Debra Welp, 66, of Galena, were found Feb. 23 in a rural Galena residence. The Jo Daviess County Coroner pronounced them deceased, a news release said. At the time, the sheriff’s office said there was no reason to believe the public was in any danger.

Galena Motorcycle Crash

A Galena man was hurt following a motorcycle crash on Wednesday. A Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s report shows that 24-year-old Louis Clark lost control of his motorcycle around 11:40a along Ferry Landing Road. Officials say Clark hit some loose gravel and drove into a ditch, where the motorcycle overturned and he was thrown off. Clark was taken to Midwest Medical Center in Galena for treatment. Authorities have cited Clark with violation of classification and driving too fast for conditions.
