Austin-Bailey Health & Wellness Foundation announces latest grant recipients

The Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation, which supports programs that promote the physical and mental well-being of residents in Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas, and Wayne counties, has approved its latest round of grants. Locally, The Wilderness Center, in Sugar Creek Township, will receive $5,000, Wooster’s Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry will get $3,500 and Wooster Christian School will be given $2,700. All told, more than $160,000 will be distributed to 11 different nonprofit organizations, along with nine schools.

Groundbreaking this week for new Rittman library branch

A public groundbreaking ceremony will take place this week for the Wayne County Public Library’s new branch in Rittman. The groundbreaking is scheduled for Friday morning, beginning at 11 o’clock, on North Main Street, just north of the Server Café. The $5.9 million project is being paid for with a low-interest loan. According to the library’s director, the hope is to move into the new branch next June, and then be open to the public soon after that.

The Huff-N-Puffers (Ashland Fast-pitch Chapter) Senior Softball Organization recently completed its 15th season. Doubleheaders consisted of two age divisions — Seniors (ages 65 and over) at 4:30 p.m., and Juniors (ages 55-64) at 6:30 p.m. Games were played weekly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Brookside Main, beginning after Memorial Day and ending before Labor Day.
