Jeff Davis Drug Unit rounds up suspected drug offenders

The Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:. Michael Randy Weldon was originally arrested in November when investigators conducted a search at a residence where large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl were discovered. Weldon was subsequently charged with: Trafficking fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine with intent, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug related objects and probation violation.

Jeff Davis deputies find drugs, guns in John Long Road residence

On Friday, June 10, 2022, the Jeff Davis County Drug Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on John Long Road. During the search of the residence approximately a quarter pound of cocaine and crack cocaine were discovered. Also in the home, illicit prescription drugs, a firearm, small quantity of marijuana and packaging materials were discovered. Darius Javon Sturgis and Markeisha Dawn Burney were arrested and charged. This is an ongoing investigation.

Four Jeff Davis County Co-Defendants Accept Pleas in 2021 Murder Case

(June 15, 2022) District Attorney (DA) Keith Higgins announces that Kegan B. Bennett, 40, Douglas L. Wooten, 41, and Denver L. Wooten, 19, all from Hazlehurst, pled guilty to Felony Murder in the 2021 death of Marcos Ramirez, 55, also of Hazlehurst. Additionally, Verlyttia Raiford, 33, plead guilty to Armed Robbery, and Denver Wooten pled guilty to the Aggravated Assault of Ramirez’ daughter, Brittany Ramirez, 27. The pleas, which were made pursuant to plea agreements, were accepted in May 2022, in Jeff Davis County Superior Court.

Former cop sentenced to life on kidnapping, other charges

Stan Livingston, a former law enforcement officer in Bacon and Jeff Davis counties, was convicted by a Bacon County jury on Wednesday, April 28, 2022, for kidnapping, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment, battery (family violence), fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ian Sansot and Judge Dwayne Gillis presided over the proceedings.

Jeff Davis High’s girls lost two of three games over the last week while the boys lost their only game of the week. The girls lost to Vidalia 38-31 in Hazlehurst last Tuesday, defeated Bacon County 40-37 Friday in Alma and dropped a makeup game to Vidalia 48-30 Saturday in Vidalia.
