Visit the Chelsea Farmers Market this Wednesday for a huge selection of fresh produce, meats, eggs, cheeses, baked goods and more. Jackson residents could own farm animals under ordinance that gets initial OK

JACKSON, MI – A revised ordinance that would allow farm animals in city limits was approved after a first reading by the Jackson City Council. The council voted 6-1 at its Tuesday, Sept. 14 meeting to move the urban farming ordinance to a second reading for further consideration. Council member Laura Dwyer Schlecte cast the vote against the ordinance.

City of Jackson sells 6 more properties for more than $100K

JACKSON, MI -- The city of Jackson is continuing to sell properties it owns. At its Tuesday, Sept. 14 meeting, the Jackson City Council approved the sale of six more properties totaling $101,500. The properties are 314 Carr St. ($15,000), 326 Carr St. ($30,000), 776 Tomlinson St. ($11,500), 1402 S. Elm Ave. ($20,000), 116 W. Prospect St. ($8,000) and 430 Madison St. ($17,000).

Former School Being Turned into Housing and Commercial Space in Downtown Jackson

(September 16, 2021 4:57 PM) The Jackson Anchor Initiative, in partnership with the City of Jackson, today announced a partnership agreement to turn the former Allen School on Pearl Street into a mixed-use development. Detroit Rock Solid, Inc. is acquiring the property from a Jackson medical practice to transform the former Jackson Public Schools building into a mixed-use residential and commercial space. The proposal will create 50 market-rate apartments of 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom units, and studio units, along with public communal space and professional offices.

New affordable housing development planned for Jackson

JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - A new affordable apartment complex is one step closer to reality in Downtown Jackson. At Tuesday’s meeting, the Jackson City Council voted in favor of an ordinance intended to aid in the development of The Blackstone Apartments, a low-to-moderate income apartment development planned on N. Blackstone Street.
