Union planners to consider jail's proposed location near Morey Courts

Union Township's planning commission will take a look at a special use permit and preliminary site plan for the Isabella County Jail's second proposed location. The new proposed location is southeast of Morey Courts in what is currently open farmland at 5270 E. Remus Road. The 44.58 acre property is south of Remus and abuts up against U.S. 127 on its east side.

Barryton man arrested for scamming elderly couple

A 51-year-old Barryton man was charged with embezzling from an elderly couple in a contracting scam that police believe he repeated in at least one other county. Dennis LaLonde was charged in a four-count indictment last week in Isabella County Trial Court with taking money from a Belmont couple to build them a house on Stevenson Lake Road in Coldwater Township but constructing only a shell.

A Midland man recently charged with criminal sexual conduct will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, June 17. On May 28, Sean Michael Hunt, a 41-year-old Midland man, was arraigned on one count of criminal sexual conduct of the first degree with a child in an Isabella County Courtroom. People are questioning the low bond set for Isaiah Gardenhire in Mason County after he went on to be arrested for sex crimes and murder in Isabella County days later. The Mason County Prosecutor charged Gardenhire with second degree criminal sexual conduct, but Gardenhire got out of jail for just $750, and police say he went on to commit two rapes and a murder in Isabella County.
