Family still seeks justice nearly 30 years after murder

ASHBURN — A young woman was murdered in Turner County in the 1980s, and her killer has yet to be brought to justice. Crystal Richardson — her tombstone identifies her as Crystal C. Martin — was found dead in the Sugar Hill neighborhood. She was stabbed, and her body was found on Josella Road. Some 12 years later, charges were filed against three men. One was brought to trial, twice. Both trials ended in hung juries.

Social Media Threat Originated in another state disseminated on social in Georgia School Systems

On August 17, 2022, around 8:3O A.M., Crisp County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a vague warning of a shooting threat circulating on social media. THIS THREAT IS NOT VALID. Crisp County School System is not the target of the post. However, some misinformation was spread through social media. Authorities determined the post originated in another state and circulated through other Georgia school systems this week. Crisp County Sheriff’s Office takes every violent threat seriously. We appreciate our local school system and the GEMA Homeland Security School Security Division for assisting us this morning in determining the origin of the threat. Additionally, we commend the student for showing the post to school officials. This morning’s event serves as a starch reminder that each of us has an essential role in promoting school safety. Turner County rest area scheduled to close Wednesday

A Turner County rest area is scheduled to close this week for paving work. Interstate 75 South rest area #9 is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, August 17 for interstate paving in the area. The Georgia Department of Transportation says the rest area is expected to close at 7:30 am.

TIFTON — Dr. Andrew Nackashi at South Georgia Surgical currently offers ventral, hiatal and inguinal hernia surgeries using the daVinci robot. “Hernia surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures in the country,” Nackashi said. “About 1 in 10 Americans will have a hernia at some point in their lives, and the majority of people will need to have surgery to repair that hernia.”

Cobb schools propose bus driver pay raises totaling $7.6M

The Cobb County School District, which has been experiencing serious shortages of bus drivers over the last two years, is proposing to boost their pay by $5.25 an hour. That’s on the agenda for both a work session and possible action Thursday night by the Cobb Board of Education.
