Opinion: New book 'Katy Has Two Grampas' reflects an Iowa family's journey

There’s a touching, beautifully illustrated new children’s book out that’s drawing five-star reviews on Amazon and bringing adult readers to tears. “Katy Has Two Grampas” is by an Iowa man, Bob Schanke, and his Minnesota-based adult daughter, Julie Schanke Lyford. The storyline stems from an experience her daughter had as a preschooler and the authors say it may be the first children’s book to feature a pair of openly gay, married men as grandparents. That seems appropriate coming from one of the first U.S. states to have recognized a right to same-sex marriage, and one whose population skews older: up to 20 percent of Iowans are or will soon be 65 and up.

What does it mean for Iowa State (spoiler alert: money and access)? Kyrie Irving is injured and the Nets are still fighting. Things looked bleak but they can still beat the Bucks as long as Bruce Brown steps up. After a quick update on the Mavs/Hawks trade power rankings, we finish off with a recap of episode 2 of the Bachelorette. Katie stepped up. Karl is a sociopath. Ozzy Osbourne’s Most Famous Scandal Happened in Iowa

Ozzy Osbourne has had plenty of famous (and kinda funny) scandals over the years. The rocker famously was arrested for taking a leak on the Alamo Cenotaph in 1982. That got him a short time in jail (he bonded out for $40), and he played the same night to a full sellout audience in San Antonio. That incident was witnessed by some, as was the time Ozzy bit the head off of a dove. Yeah, he likes to bite off heads. But those really didn't stick with the name Ozzy Osbourne the same way as the scandalous bat incident where Ozzy bit off the head of a live bat... in Iowa. That's right, Ozzy's most infamous story occurred.
