IC man arrested for armed robbery

Iowa City Police have made an arrest in an armed robbery case from late last year. 20-year-old Dentrell Miles of Taylor Drive was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 9pm Friday. Police say Miles met with his victim to conduct a drug transaction in the parking lot of La Rumba at the Iowa City Marketplace just after 9pm on December 3rd. Miles’ accomplice allegedly struck the man in the head with a pistol before Miles allegedly punched the man while he was on the ground. The two then allegedly took $150 in cash. The victim was treated for a head injury at a local hospital.

Washington Man Dies After Motorcycle Accident

A Washington man recently passed away after injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash. A preliminary report from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office shows that 58-year-old Mark Alan Kendall was traveling northbound on Vine Avenue on July 18th at approximately 1:08 a.m. when he struck a deer crossing the road which caused the motorcycle to lay down and slide approximately 60 feet. Kendall was transported by Washington County Ambulance Service to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics shortly following the crash. He passed away on July 23rd. Memorial services are being held for Kendall today at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington.

Linn County Not Impacted By New CDC Guidelines So Far

Centers for Disease Control mask wearing guidelines issued yesterday do not yet impact people living and working in Linn County. According to the CDC’s Level of Community Transmission map, the local transmission rate is “Moderate,” one ranking below the rate of spread in which expanded mask wearing is recommended. For people in counties with “substantial or high transmission,” rates, the CDC recommends, “fully vaccinated people to wear a mask in public indoor settings.”

Cedar Rapids residents charged with drug possession after traffic stop

Two Cedar Rapids residents face charges after a search of their vehicle during a traffic stop turned up marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The incident occurred just after 8pm Thursday on Highway 218 Southbound near Iowa City. The arrest reports don’t indicate who was driving, but 43-year-old Kasey McNamara and 29-year-old Brittni Norton of Miller Avenue Southwest were stopped for speeding. A police canine conducted an open air sniff on the vehicle and alerted positive to drugs.

Preliminary report for plane crash near Muscatine released by NTSB

The preliminary report for a plane crash in Muscatine earlier this month has been released by the NTSB. The bodies of Daniel Slack, 68, and Sharon Slack, 69, both of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, were found in the wreckage west of Iowa Route 38 and north of 170th Street in northern Muscatine County.
