Static cameras equipped with license-plate readers will soon be installed across Jefferson County to help combat the rise in vehicle thefts."Particularly in the southern part of Jefferson County, we're seeing more of that and so a lot of these cameras will be down in that area," said Karlyn Tilley, public information officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.The sheriff's office, which has been using license plate reading technology in their vehicles for more than 20 years, says these cameras are static and can look at every plate that passes by. Crews to conduct prescribed burns at Bear Creek Lake Park

Crews are conducting prescribed burns at Bear Creek Lake Park in Jefferson County this week. A controlled burn began Tuesday and will continue over the next three days at the popular park. West Metro Fire Rescue said the burn is actually part of a wildfire investigation class, so it's educational. Copter4 flew over the area as crews were burning and extinguishing some grassy areas. If you see smoke in the area, it's expected- at least this week.

Wheat Ridge police thank Jeffco Sheriff's Office for K9 help

The Wheat Ridge Police Department is thanking the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for their K9 unit assistance on Monday afternoon. The K9 officer found two guns connected to a "shots fired" call at a condominium near North Robb Street and West 38th Avenue.A bullet went through the bedroom ceiling of a nearby home. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The investigation into the shooting continues.

Clear Creek County Undersheriff passes away, sheriff says

Clear Creek County Undersheriff Bruce Snelling passed away at his home Saturday night, according to Clear Creek Sheriff Rick Albers.Albers wrote the following statement in a Facebook post Sunday morning:"It is never an easy task to have to share difficult news: Saturday evening, September 24, 2022, Undersheriff Bruce Snelling passed away at his home.I know that Bruce loved his Clear Creek family and was proud of the employees he commanded and the community he served.We will continue to provide communication and additional information as we work through this tragic loss together.The Sheriff's Office offers the Snelling family our most sincere condolences for their loss."Albers said he'll provide more information on Monday.Snelling's brother tells CBS News Colorado that the 60-year-old died of natural causes.Snelling served as undersheriff since 2015, according to his LinkedIn page, and prior to that, he was a captain at the sheriff's office. He also served as a longtime spokesman for the agency.
