Hockey fights don’t prevent more violence on the ice

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Modern hockey is fast and modern medicine now knows that too many hits to the head is a major concern. Both of those developments have made the role of the “enforcer” on hockey teams increasingly unnecessary. So why does fighting in hockey persist? Proponents argue that fights deter greater violence and cheap shots, but researchers from The Ohio State University say that’s not actually true.

Penguins lose another front office member to Vancouver, promote Kostopoulos

Scott Young has departed the Penguins’ organization, it was recently announced Pittsburgh’s former director of player development has taken a job with the Vancouver Canucks with a similar title. The Canucks, of course, are now run by former Penguin executives Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford, who also hired Young to the Pens in 2017.

River City Sportsplex hosts watch party

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The River City Sports Plex in Grand Junction has been hosting watch parties at the location since the Stanley Cup Playoffs began. When the Colorado Avalanche made it to the Stanley Cup playoffs, they hosted these watch parties during game days. They house an 18-foot projector screen and set up chairs on the ice to make it feel like you are at Ball Arena. The event is free, but a reservation online is recommended before arrival.

2021-22 Team: Soo Greyhounds (OHL) Kirill Kudryavtsev is a two-way defender with tons of skill. He played his first season of North American hockey this season as a member of the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Soo Greyhounds, where he scored an impressive 39 points in 68 games. In 2020-21, Kudryavtsev found moderate success in the top Russian junior league (MHL), but his decision to move to a new continent was likely the best choice he could have made to improve his draft stock.
