5 sent to hospital after Tyrone home explosion

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Emergency responders were at the scene of a house explosion on the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Tyrone Monday afternoon. Five individuals have reportedly been transported to UPMC Altoona. There are no confirmed fatalities at this time and one person is currently unaccounted for, according to emergency officials. Two adjacent buildings were also impacted by the fire.

Police search for Goodwill theft suspect in State College

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — State College police are looking for help to identify a Goodwill theft suspect that was caught on camera. The incident happened on Thursday, July 15 around 4 p.m. at the Goodwill in College Township. The suspect was found to be changing tags on items to pay a lower price.

Police: Two women found sleeping in woman’s apartment in Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Two Houtzdale women are facing charges after police report that they were found sleeping in another woman’s apartment in Clearfield County. According to the report, Brittany Billett, 29, and Joanna Shylock, 33, both of Houtzdale, were found sleeping in a 2nd-floor apartment on W. Hannah Street in Woodward Township on July 13. When searched, Billett reportedly had suspected meth and paraphernalia on her.

State police: Blair County man shot his brother

A Blair County man is charged with criminal homicide, accused of shooting his brother on Saturday, and then dumping his body in a field, authorities said. State police in Bedford charged Larry Michael Claar, 41, of Claysburg, with homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Blair County man pleads guilty to possession of fentanyl, meth

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Blair County resident pleaded guilty in federal court on July 23 to possessing and intending to distribute multiple drugs, including fentanyl. Jesse Daniel Ginter, 40, of Williamsburg will be sentenced Nov. 23. According to the Department of Justice, Homeland Security Investigation agents executed a federal search warrant on Ginter’s residence in March 2018. Agents recovered numerous controlled substances, including fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Logan Township police are asking for help to identify a suspect regarding the theft of a cash box at a hotel in Altoona. Police were called to the Quality Inn and Suites on Pleasant Valley Blvd. July 24 at around 5:15 p.m. for a theft that occurred around 12:15 p.m. that day. The suspect pictured allegedly stole a cash box that contained cash and PA Skills Machine Vouchers. He then left in an unknown direction.

A new medical cannabis dispensary is planned to occupy the former Home D Pizzeria building on South Atherton Street. Owners announced in June that Home D Pizzeria, which had been in business for nearly 70 years, was closing its State College location. Brandon Nemec, government and regulatory affairs associate director for PharmaCann, told the Centre Daily Times in an email that the company plans to turn the building into the Centre Region’s second medical marijuana dispensary.
