Fire near Caddo Mills burns more than 53 acres

After Tuesday’s rains, fire danger has been downgraded to moderate across most of the region Wednesday. In western Hunt County, a grass fire on Tuesday burned more than 53 acres before being contained. Multiple departments responded to the blaze along State Highway 6, between Caddo Mills and Josephine. Crews doused the fire around 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

Fire danger returns to higher levels Tuesday

Fire danger across Northeast Texas has returned to high levels today, with dry, sunny and windy conditions. Firefighters in Hunt County have been battling wildfires. Yesterday evening, crews contained a fire north of Commerce along State Highway 24 that burned a little less than an acre. Another blaze just east of the Commerce Municipal Airport has burned between three and four acres, according to the most recent report from the Texas A&M Forest Service. The latest report, as of about11 o’clock last night, said the fire was 60 percent contained. Elsewhere in Hunt County, a fire northwest of Greenville burned more than 15 acres before being contained Monday afternoon. The blaze happened near the intersection of County Roads 1083 and 1088.

Drug bust in Quinlan nets 7 arrests

In Quinlan yesterday, Hunt County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Quinlan police arrested seven adults and placed two children in state custody. Officers executed a search warrant in the 9700 block of Blue Jay Parkway. The seven adults were all placed in the Hunt County Jail and charged with drug-related offenses.

Commerce waiting on water lab test results, NTMWD announces Wylie repairs complete

As of this morning, the City of Commerce remains under a boil water advisory, and mandatory water usage restrictions are in place. Both conditions are related to the city’s aging water treatment plant, which has been struggling to meet demand since a leak earlier this month lowered water levels in the city’s storage and delivery systems. The boil advisory could be lifted as early as Wednesday morning, but the usage restrictions are likely to remain in place through the weekend, Commerce city manager Howdy Lisenbee said during a live broadcast of KETR’s North By Northeast program Tuesday morning.

Today, firefighters in Hunt County are battling a 19-acre fire northeast of Greenville. The Texas A&M Forest Service reported the blaze active but contained as of late this afternoon.
