Humboldt County Detention Center Implements Electronic Tablet Program for Inmates. On April 29, 2022, the Humboldt County Detention Center released the inmate computer tablet program. The tablets are provided by contract through Securus Technologies at no cost to the Sheriff’s Office or tax payers. This project has been in the works for over two years working with Securus Technologies. The Detention center was set for launch of the tablets prior to the Covid pandemic, which set it back another year due to electronic manufacturing.

Tractor Trailer Driver Arrested After Using Truck to Ram Vehicles. On the morning of Friday, May 6, 2022 at about 8:00a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office began receiving 911 calls of a tractor trailer that had hit multiple vehicles in the parking lot of the Say When Casino before coming to a stop after colliding with another vehicle on US 95, causing the tractor to become disabled. Dispatchers immediately dispatched patrol deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and notified the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Highway Patrol. When deputies and troopers arrived, they contacted the driver of the tractor trailer, identified as 48 year-old Geovany Jimenez-Zarceno, of Mountain Home, Idaho.

Due to an apparent conflict of interest, the Winnemucca Police Department requested the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office investigate allegations of simple battery and child abuse that had occurred at the Winnemucca Grammar School on or around April 21, 2022. Following this investigation, investigators determined probable cause existed for the arrest of Mayelen Bengochea, age 39 of Winnemucca. On April 28, 2022 Bengochea was booked into the Humboldt County Detention Center on the charges of simple battery and child abuse, with bail being set in the amount of $14,500.00. No further information will be released at this time.
