News: The Columbia Festival of the Arts Teaming with Howard County and Columbia Association to Celebrate Long Reach Village’s 50th Anniversary

The Columbia Festival of the Arts, in partnership with The Howard County Government with additional support from the Columbia Association, will be the hosts for the Long Reach Village Center’s Celebration of it’s 50th Anniversary. Festivities will take place on October 15, 5 – 9 pm and October 16, 11 am – 9 pm at the Long Reach Village Center in Columbia, Maryland. The program includes free concerts and a fine arts and crafts show featuring 20 artists with many items for sale. There will be family-friendly craft projects from Doodle Hatch and oversized games to play. Also happening will be the permanent public art installation of the mural, “Above the Sea,” sponsored by the United Way of Maryland. On Saturday you can catch a kids’ comedy and magic show featuring Elizabeth Normand and magician Charlie Ross. Other merchants and arts organizations include the African Art Museum, Roll Up n Dye, Columbia Art’s Center, Began Soul Bakery, Every Kid Can Cook, Power 52, Community Action Council of Howard County, and more. There will also be local food trucks both days.

Howard County seeks input on how to spend millions in American Rescue Plan funds

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is out with a plan to use millions in federal dollars provided to the Maryland county by the federal government’s American Rescue Plan. At a news conference in Ellicott City on Thursday, Ball launched what the county is calling “a community engagement plan,” that aims to spend $63.2 million in allocated federal funding designed to address immediate and long-term challenges spurred by the coronavirus pandemic.

Howard County Executive Announces American Rescue Plan Early Funding, Asks for Community Feedback

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today launched a community engagement plan, including a community survey, seeking feedback from residents and businesses on how to utilize American Rescue Plan (ARP) federal funding. Howard County was allocated $63.2 million in federal ARP funding, the first half of which will be available for use this fiscal year. MDOT State Highway Administration Launches New Project To Enhance Bicycle Safety

CLARKSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) — The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration announced a new project to help enhance bicycle safety along nearly five miles in Clarksville. “Once completed, this project will provide an improved alternative for bicyclists traveling through this portion of the county,” said MDOT SHA Tim Smith. “We thank Howard County for supporting MDOT SHA in our mission to help people get where they need to go safely.” The $3 million MD 32 alternate bike route project is in collaboration with Howard County through a federal grant. It is in the design phase and is set to widen portions of the roadway for bicyclists. “As we improve Maryland’s roadways, it’s critical to take a multi-modal approach that considers all users,” MDOT Secretary Greg Slater said. “As a result of this collaborative effort with our partners in Howard County, the MD 32 bike route project will enhance travel options and safety for everyone in this area.”
