Health care workers challenge Texas hospital's denial of vaccine religious exemptions

(The Center Square) – Three employees of Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston are fighting the hospital's denial of their vaccine religious exemption requests. Liberty Counsel sent a demand letter to the hospital on behalf of the three health care workers after it denied the employees’ requests not to be vaccinated against COVID-19 for religious reasons.

Spring resident Linda Higgins said when the COVID-19 vaccine was made available to the public earlier this year, she was hesitant to get it. “It was developed so quickly, and the public didn’t have as much information as we have now,” Higgins said. “I am a senior citizen with diabetes and two immune diseases, and if I got COVID, it could very well kill me. Then I learned that a much younger friend had died from it. So, my mindset about the vaccine quickly changed, and I got the first one a month ago and the second one last week.”

Houston doctor cleared of COVID vaccine theft charges will sue county seeking over $1 million

A Houston doctor says he was punished for administering expiring vaccine doses, and he is ready to strike back. Dr. Hasan Gokal was fired from his job. A few weeks after he was fired, Harris County's District Attorney, Kim Ogg charged him with stealing vaccine doses. In January, a judge decided there was no probable cause to charge Gokal. Ogg then took the case to a grand jury, but in June the grand jury declined to indict him. The charges against him were dropped.

KPRC 2 has teamed up with Telemundo Houston to make it easy for more people in our community to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The vaccine is free at many locations all over the Greater Houston area. Upon vaccination, each person receives a CDC COVID-19 card that lists the date of the first dose, provider, and vaccine type.
