Houston's Southwest Freeway to close for the next two weekends, TxDOT says

All of U.S. 59 will be closed at West Loop 610 this weekend and again next weekend. The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday night and last through 5 a.m. the following Monday. Shutdowns the following weekend will also begin and end at these times, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Several adjacent interchanges will also be closed for the work.

Headed out this weekend? Avoid I-69 near the Galleria.

Weather forecasters expect this to be a great weekend to get outside in the Houston region, but if those plans involve Interstate 69 south of the Galleria, expect delays. Crews working on the freeway’s interchange with Loop 610 will close I-69 in both directions at 9 p.m. Friday, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, officials said. In the interim, drivers should expect lengthy delays and detours in the area, often traffic-clogged by shoppers and travelers even when all lanes are open.
