The nonprofit Houston Audubon designed and launched a new conservation license plate sponsored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. A committee of 14 local conservation enthusiasts selected the Eastern Meadowlark to feature because this species is in need of conservation action, and the habitat is one that Houston Audubon is committed to restoring. Taco Bell is testing out 'taco subscriptions.' Maybe these Houston spots should, too.

Taco Bell is trying out a novel idea out in Tuscon, Arizona: a monthly taco subscription. CNN's Jordan Valinksy reports that the purveyor of Crunchwrap Supremes, Baja Blasts and Doritos Locos Tacos is testing out a new "Taco Lovers Pass" that will get subscribers one taco every day for 30 days for the low price of $5 or $10. Choices for the daily taco include a soft taco, spicy potato soft taco, crunchy tacos and the famous Doritos tacos.

A Handheld Chicken and Waffles Spot Is Coming to Sugar Land

Sugar Land Town Center is getting some fresh new tenants to spruce up the suburban hot-spot. The community center recently announced the addition of Mahesh's Kitchen, a family-oriented Indian restaurant, and now, the popular handheld chicken and waffles concept Chick'n Cone is making its way to the area. The fast-casual concept, known for its creative spin on the soul food staple, made its Houston debut in The Heights just last year.

Openings and Closings: Casa Nomad Heights, Rosalie Returns

Casa Nomad, 600 N. Shepherd, will open September 23 at M-K-T in the Heights. The Tulum-inspired lounge and restaurant will bring coastal Mexican flavors and a tropical oasis to an area that is teeming with new dining, bar and retail businesses despite the pandemic. It comes from the team behind Wicklow Heights, the bungalow bar and beer garden that opened in 2017. The trio, made up of Roland Keller, Tyler Barrera and Keith Doyle, are also planning another concept adjacent to Casa Nomad called Highline Park, an upscale patio bar which will share a kitchen and bathrooms with its sister restaurant. It will open later this fall.
