Salvation Army leaders rising to meet current challenges in Norfolk

Major Jesus Trejo won’t let his recent boost in rank at the Salvation Army affect his ego. In June, the organization promoted the Norfolk minister from a lieutenant to major, a rank his wife, Major Kelli Trejo, received four years ago. But the couple — who have led the Norfolk Salvation Army since mid-2018 — take the titles in stride as they keep their eyes focused on their mission: To preach the gospel and meet human needs in the name of Jesus Christ.

Norfolk police to get K-9 service unit, looking for community support

After a nearly 20-month hiatus, a K-9 service dog is expected to make its way to Norfolk in the coming weeks before undergoing extensive training in Grand Island. The Norfolk Police Division is expected to receive a German shepherd service dog to assist the agency with its operations as soon as mid-August, and the department is looking for corporate support to help fund the unit.

Norfolk making needed repairs to roads and rivers

NORFOLK -- The Engineering Division of Norfolk will be proposing its plan for its 2022 budget of three million dollars in a week. We caught up with director Steve Ramos to find out how they're spending the rest of their 2021 budget. Rames said he's most excited about the asphalt overlay project; an effort to cover potholes on highway 81 and around town, long overdue. This will be ongoing this month.
