Severe thunderstorms developed along the Kansas and Nebraska border near highway 83 early in the afternoon of Thursday, May 12. The storms quickly intensified and developed into a line that moved rapidly northward through eastern Nebraska, northwestern Iowa, eastern South Dakota and into central Minnesota. Wind speeds of 80 to 100 mph brought significant straight line wind damage throughout eastern Nebraska.

The NVC Conference Track Meet was held last Tuesday, May 3 at the West Holt Track. West Holt won the girls and boys team events with a score of 168.66 and 151.5.

HARTINGTON - An O’Neill couple will be serving time behind bars for their involvement in a break-in at a Randolph storage unit building. Austin Thyfault and Carol Padgett. Austin Thyfault and Carol Padgett appeared separately through web technology from the Nebraska Department of Corrections for sentencing in Cedar County last week. The two are serving time for crimes in Holt County.

The Nebraska Primary Election will be held next Tuesday, May, 10. Besides the Republican Governor race, one of the more pertinent races to the Holt County area will be that of filling the 40th Legislature District being vacated by Sen. Timothy Gragert of Creighton at the end of his term.

Commemorative bricks were being laid at the General John O'Neill sculpture on Tuesday, May 3. The bricks with sponsors names were sold to help with the cost of the sculpture. A celebration to dedicate the site of the sculpture and bricks will be held on Saturday, June 4 outside the Holt County Court House.
