POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI) – Identifications have been made following Thursday’s double murder in Butler County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the shooter – who was shot and killed by Butler County officers Thursday afternoon – as 45-year-old Justin A. Morgan (son of Murphy).

Suspect fatally shot, 2 found dead in Missouri home

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) — Law enforcement officials say officers shot and killed a man after responding to reports of shots fired at a home in southeast Missouri. Two other people were later found dead inside the home. Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs said in a news release the officers responded Thursday afternoon to reports of several shots being fired in and around a home on a state highway east of Poplar Bluff. Dobbs said when officers arrived, they were confronted by an armed individual, and deputies fatally shot the man. Deputies then found two people dead inside the home, apparently from gunshot wounds. The sheriff said three Butler County deputies are on paid administrative leave. The Missouri State Highway Patrol will lead the investigation.

Family members killed in Thursday afternoon shooting

Law enforcement officials believe a man shot and killed his father and brother Thursday afternoon in rural Butler County before being shot and killed by responding deputies. Butler County sheriff’s department was called shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday to a report of shots fired in the 1700 block of Highway AA, according to a press release from Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs. Concerns were also raised by neighbors about the well-being of those in a residence in that block.

Three reported dead in incident on Highway AA

Three people are dead after a shooting Thursday afternoon on Highway AA, east of Poplar Bluff. According to a press release from Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs, deputies responded shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday to the 1700 block of Highway AA in reference to numerous shots being fired in and around a home in a heavily populated residential area. Driver Seriously Hurt in Pemiscot County Crash

A Caruthersville man was seriously hurt Thursday morning when his vehicle hydroplaned on Route D in Pemiscot County, ran off the road, and overturned. The MSHP says 41 year old Matthew Young was taken to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital. The accident happened at 9:25 a.m.

Four Hurt in Head On Crash Near Bernie

A head-on crash on Highway 25 south of Bernie last night left four people hurt, two seriously. The MSHP reports the accident happened when a vehicle driven by 74 year old Timothy Thurston of Brosley crossed the center line and struck a SUV driven by 54 year old Tina Riggs of Dexter.

Caruthersville PD Finds Stolen Car

Caruthersville Police recovered a stolen car Wednesday. The car was found, according to the PD, on a parking lot on Playground Road. Multiple parts from the vehicle had been removed. The car was reported stolen in Dyersburg. This incident remains under investigation.

Names released of victims in Qulin double homicide

Authorities have released the names of the two victims in a double homicide that occurred over the weekend in Qulin. Butler County Coroner Jim Akers reports that the victims have been identified as 48-year-old Wendy Rhodes, of Qulin, and 36-year-old Margaret Delcour, of Broseley. Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs reports that 30-year-old Steven Scott, of O’Fallon, was arrested Sunday morning after both Rhodes and Delcour were found dead inside a Qulin residence with gunshot wounds. A witness told investigators that they had witnessed Scott arguing with the two women before shooting them. Scott was taken into custody later that day in Dexter. Scott has been charged with two counts of 1st degree murder; four counts of armed criminal action; and a single count each of abuse or neglect of a child, endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held in the Butler County Justice Center on no bond.

The former city clerk of Parma was sentenced on Monday, Dec. 5, after pleading guilty to a felony charge of stealing from the Missouri Bootheel town. Helen Frye was ordered by the New Madrid County Circuit Court to pay restitution of $37,626 to the city and was sentenced to seven years in prison. She received a suspended execution of sentence, meaning she will serve 120 days in prison and then be placed on probation.

Steven Timothy Scott faces two counts of murder first degree, four counts of armed criminal action, one count of abuse or neglect of a child, one count of endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
