Radiothon aims to raise $170,000 on Team Jack Day

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Team Jack, a Nebraska-based nonprofit that raises money for childhood brain cancer research, is hosting its 10th annual Radiothon on “Team Jack Day,” Sept. 29. They hope to raise $170,000. If they meet their goal, the nonprofit will have raised a total of $1 million in the last ten years.

Frontier County veteran celebrates 102nd birthday

The family of World War II veteran Robert Furrow celebrated his 102nd birthday on Saturday, a few days ahead of his actual birthday Wednesday. His son Scott Furrow said family came to town over the weekend, so they decided to celebrate early. He said about 20 family members went to a restaurant in Maywood and shared a meal and fun.

Avoid Mosquitoes and West Nile Virus

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) reminds residents to continue to avoid mosquito bites to prevent West Nile Virus. “This is a reminder for everyone to continue taking preventive measures against mosquito bites,” states Melissa Propp, RN, Public Health Nurse at SWNPHD. “We have not detected any West Nile positive mosquito pools in the health district in the 2022 season; however, until there is a hard freeze, mosquitoes are still present in southwest Nebraska and may potentially be carrying West Nile Virus.”
