New Kanab Elementary School update

I wanted to provide an update on the construction of the new Kanab Elementary School. The new school is 77 percent completed. The temporary construction fencing has been removed, and the permanent fence has been installed. The wood floor in the gymnasium is being installed. Lights and a sound system in the gym have been installed. The office area has been painted, and cabinets have been installed.

Fredonia High School boys and girls basketball have been busy

The last few weeks have been very busy for the Fredonia basketball teams. Fredonia hosted Water Canyon on January 9, where the boys took a hard loss of 62-39. The girls had more luck and won 45-21. Both Fredonia teams headed to El Capitan on January 10, where the boys’ varsity were slaughtered and lost 18-65. The girls’ varsity fought hard but came up just a little short, with a loss of 29-39.

Obscure Utah pizza restaurant ranked among the country’s best

One of Utah’s most obscure pizza places was just named one of the very best in the United States. Hurricane Utah’s “Dixie Pizza Wagon” was ranked No. 5 on the list of Yelp’s “Top Pizza Spots in the U.S. and Canada.” The small pizza joint, literally operating out of a wagon sitting in a parking lot, is known for their handcrafted, wood-fired pizzas and was ranked among some of the country’s best alongside other places in pizza-centric cities like New York and Chicago.

High speed chase reaches speeds of 130 mph east of Kanab

On the afternoon of January 19, Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) troopers spotted a Volkswagen Jetta westbound toward Kanab, traveling at speeds exceeding 90 mph - upon the trooper initiating pursuit, the vehicle sped up further to well over 100 mph. According to UHP, the trooper felt it was safer to radio ahead rather than attempt to overtake the vehicle. Kane County Deputies, Kanab City Police (KPD) and a few more UHP officers were able to respond and prepare spike strips a few miles down the road. By the time the vehicle reached the first set of spikes set up by the deputies, it had reached speeds exceeding 130 mph - the strips deflated the vehicle’s front driver’s side tire.

Like many off-road enthusiasts, Dirt Wheels wanted to attend the first-ever Adventure Rally on the Rocks at Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, Utah. Sand Hollow is a favorite destination for us, and we love to get a camping spot where we can see the lake but avoid the evening bugs near the water’s edge. We spend our time there in the truck camper and never leave the park. It is a great time and great riding.
