Freeman Spur man arrested for beating child

FREEMAN SPUR, Ill. (WJPF) — A Williamson County man has been arrested for severely beating his child. Joseph Myers, 23, is charged with Aggravated Battery of a Child. Illinois State Police say their investigation started Monday after they were notified by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and DCFS that a one-month-old child had received serious injuries at a home in Freeman Spur. The child was later taken to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Salem swordfish concluded their season Saturday in Herrin at the Southern Illinois Swim League championship meet. They finished 2nd place behind the Marion Marlins. High point winners were Clara Crompton, Lewis Eddy, Charlotte Johnson, Addy Douglas, Jared Crompton, Micah Montgomery, Caroline Foltz, Makoa Montgomery, Meesha Montgomery, Alek Bandy and Haddon Lybarger. Marshall Ray Davis Sr., 65, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:59 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the St. Mary Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Marshall worked in maintenance at Walmart. He was of the Lutheran faith. Marshall enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed fishing, Cardinal baseball, old westerns and NASCAR.

Illinois hospitals sued over plan to create 4-hospital system

An outpatient surgery center in Illinois is suing to block Carbondale, Ill.-based Southern Illinois Hospital Services from acquiring Harrisburg (Ill.) Medical Center. In June, Southern Illinois Hospital Services announced its intent to buy Harrisburg Medical Center. If the two organizations close the deal, it would create a four-hospital system serving a 16-county region.
