ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A high school football player in northern New York died from a head injury he suffered during a game, according to local media. Tyler Christman, a freshman at Carthage High School, was injured during a junior varsity game Saturday against West Genesee High School in Camillus, about 77 miles from Rochester, NBC New York reported.

Police: Woman shot on Conkey Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A 21-year-old woman was shot Saturday evening on Conkey Avenue near Avenue A in Rochester. Officers with the Rochester Police Department say the victim was shot at least one time in her upper body. She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening. Anyone with further information is asked to call 911.

Elba resident dies after losing control of vehicle in the Town of Byron

BYRON, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Elba resident is dead after losing control of their vehicle Saturday evening after hitting a tree and crashing into a barn in the Town of Byron. The Genesee County Sheriff’s office says around 6:11 p.m. Dustin Nemec was driving his Volkswagen east on Chapell Road and lost control going around a curve and went off the north road shoulder.

Bus tours of historic Brockport

On September 8 and 14, a group of residents from the Highlands at Pittsford toured Brockport’s historic village. Sue Savard (at right) and Dan Burns conducted the tours, which highlighted the village’s churches, theater, schools, homes, and early inhabitants. At each stop along the way, the tour guides wove together seldom-heard snippets of history from the building of the Erie Canal to the expansion of the college. No visit to Brockport would be complete without a tour of the Morgan Manning house conducted by Rozenn Bailleul-LeSuer and Gordon Fox. Adding to the experience, participants enjoyed Welcome to Brockport cookies made by Margaret Burns. At the end of their visit, participants expressed a new appreciation of Brockport’s history and finished off their tour with lunch at 58 Main BBQ & Brew.
