Rova Saxophone Quartet Concert Oct. 7

The Grinnell College Music Department will showcase Rova Saxophone Quartet Concert Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Formed in San Francisco with its first concert being in February 1978, Rova Sax Quartet quickly became well-known for its vital blend of compositions and structured improvisation, and has performed - over its 40-plus years - at some of the most prestigious jazz clubs and festivals throughout the world, including festivals that are well-known but hardly support the cutting edge of “jazz” - such as The Monterey Jazz Festival - and other major festivals with truly creative programming such as Jazz em Agosto (Lisbon, Portugal), Winter Jazzfest (New York) Music Unlimited (Wels, Austria), and Musique Actuelle (Victoriaville, Quebec) and Vancouver Jazz Festival.

Indianola Volleyball Sweeps Newton in Conference Matchup

The Indianola volleyball dispatched Newton in a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup Tuesday night, winning 3-0 on the road. The Indians had little trouble from the start, winning the first set 25-15, then again built a double-digit advantage in a 25-14 win in the second set, before eliminating any chance of a Cardinals rally with a 25-11 win in the third set to earn the win. Head coach Kent Halstead tells KNIA Sports you can’t teach height, and the Indians have to be an excellent passing team and that is what he has seen so far. Indianola improves to 21-4 and 4-1 in conference play, and they will next play in the Urbandale invitational on Saturday.
