Meet the new principal at Mulberry Creek Elementary School

CATAULA — The Harris County School District’s Board of Education has approved Amy Allen as the new principal for Mulberry Creek Elementary School in Cataula. As the 2021-2022 school year marks her 26th year as an educator, Allen will be re-joining the Mulberry Creek family after serving as the assistant principal at Creekside Intermediate School since 2018.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place June 8. According to the GBI, Troup County Sheriff’s Office deputies saw a black BMW 545i traveling southbound on I-185, at a speed of 93 mph in a 70 mph speed zone. Deputies attempted a stop, however the driver did not stop, resulting in a vehicle pursuit.

A Sharpsburg man reportedly shot at officers in Columbus Tuesday and was killed when a Georgia State Patrol trooper returned fire. Kevin Christopher Caldwell, 33, was reportedly speeding around 4 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 185 in Troup County. A Troup County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop Caldwell’s vehicle, but the driver reportedly did not stop and a vehicle pursuit was then initiated, the GBI reported Thursday.
