Ford Foundation president Darren Walker returns to his Texas roots

Nestled behind overgrown shrubs and clearly long-abandoned, Darren Walker's first childhood home in rural Ames, Texas was still instantly recognizable to him. Its modest two rooms and porch unlocked memories for Walker of an upbringing where, he explained, money was scarce, love was abundant, and education was valued above all else.


33-year-old Marvin Ramirez was last seen in Cleveland, Texas on July 16th, 2021. Marvin was wearing a black shirt, jeans, and blue & gray Nike tennis shoes. Marvin has a teardrop tattoo underneath his right eye and multiple other tattoos throughout his body. Cleveland Police had an active search going for Ramirez. His truck was found on a dirt road leading to a gravel pit just off SH 105 between Loop 105 and FM 1725. Cleveland Police search the area again this morning and were preparing for Texas Equusearch crews arrival on Saturday morning. About 6pm Friday evening a family member called Cleveland Police in hysterics saying they found their loved one. Cleveland Police responded to the location and found a body which at this time they could not make a positive identification even though family members believe it is him. Neal Funeral Home transported the victim to Beaumont for autopsy. At this time it is unknown as to the cause of death pending an autopsy.

Body found believed to be missing Cleveland man

A body believed to be a Cleveland man reported missing two weeks ago was found Friday night, according to authorities. Marvin Ramirez, 33, was reported missing July 16. Around 6 p.m. Friday, one of his family members called Cleveland Police to report they believed they found his body. Police were unable to confirm the identity of the deceased and took the body to Beaumont for autopsy.

Convicted felon arrested after leading multiple agencies on vehicle, foot chase through Chambers County

CHAMERS COUNTY, Texas – A convicted felon was arrested Saturday after attempting to evade a deputy during a traffic stop. A deputy with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office observed a Black male in a black Ford Fusion with out-of-state plates driving erratically. The driver committed multiple traffic violations whilst traveling westbound on IH-10, according to a release from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.

Aquatic center opens at AIM Team Camp in Tarkington

A grand opening celebration was held July 4 for the Jessica Faith Bostwick Aquatic Center, part of the AIM Team Camp in Tarkington that is operated by Liberty Church of Cleveland. The new aquatic center, paid for entirely by donations and fundraisers, is named for Jessica Bostwick, the late daughter of senior pastors Preston and Paige Bostwick and the granddaughter of founding pastors Bob and Frieda White.
