Historic Greene County Poor Farm Destroyed by Suspicious Fire Overnight

A piece of Greene County history is gone after a suspicious fire consumed the old county Almshouse last night. Chief of the Carrollton Fire Department Tim Thaxton says, he could see the glow from the fire when he stepped outside of his home a little before 9:30 Wednesday night. He says he was certain he knew exactly what and where it was when he saw it.

Motorcyclist dies in St. Charles County crash

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday in a crash along Highway N in St. Charles County, authorities said. The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the victim as Paul W. Atherton, 53, of O'Fallon, Missouri. Atherton was riding a 2010 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited motorcycle east on Highway N about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Two physicians join Illini Rural Health Clinic

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — Dr. Dakota Lammy and Dr. Alborz Javadzadeh have joined the medical staff of Illini Rural Health Clinic. Lammy is a family medicine provider. Born in Alton and raised in Calhoun County, Lammy earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford and completed a three-year family medicine residency with Franciscan Health of Indianapolis. He has a special interest in preventive medicine, diabetes care, and hypertension and cholesterol management.

Hulda Bingenheimer – One of Brother John’s Girls

Today’s post begins with the birth of a girl named Hulda Carolina Martha Bingenheimer on August 18, 1898. She would be 124 years old today if she was still alive. Hulda was the daughter of John and Lena (Moeller) Bingenheimer. Let me explain today’s title. A previous post was titled Brother John’s Girls, and that post was a take-off on another previous post titled, George’s Girls. Two Bingenheimer brothers, John and George had families full of females. As you can see, Hulda was one of brother John’s girls.

Newest Florissant Dispensary Closes After Attempted Burglary

A month after its grand opening, Cookies dispensary — located at 11088 New Halls Ferry Road — has closed its doors temporarily. The move comes after an attempted burglary at the medical marijuana dispensary. Around 5:15 a.m., police reported that the suspects drove a car through the building in an attempt to get inside. No arrests were made, but it is being investigated as a burglary. Extensive damage was done to the property which prompted the closure.
