White County Treasurer Employee Charged With Multiple Felonies In Hardin County

A Carmi woman is facing a laundry list of charges out of Hardin County according to online court records. 39-year-old Brandie Burchfield was arrested on Sunday, July 10th and now faces 7 counts including 2 felonies. Among the charges are misdemeanors alleging Burchfield was driving under the influence and unlawful possession of cannabis. Felony charges issued include Possession of a Firearm with a defaced serial number and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. A preliminary hearing and bond court date was held July 22nd. A pre-trial has been planned for August 26th. Burchfield will be represented by Daniel Cockrum.

Gallatin 4-H members shine at multicounty Horse Show

Natilie Foshee, Emersyn Smith and McKellyn Smith represented Gallatin County at the Multi-County 4-H Horse Show held July 12 at the Southeastern Illinois Horse Club arena in Ridgway Community Park. Youth from Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin and Pope county 4-H programs attended. The ring was provided and prepared by membership of the Southeastern Illinois Horse Club.

Community Education

The college recognizes that education is a lifelong process and strives to meet the needs of the community and help develop the potential ability of all individuals. The college offers a variety of community education or non-credit courses. The courses are usually hobby, leisure, or non-traditional in nature and are offered in a flexible manner. They are offered at locations geographically convenient to various segments of the community including on SIC's main campus near Harrisburg, at the SIC White County Center in Carmi and various locations in Gallatin, Pope and Hardin counties. At SIC, we recognize the importance of each segment of the community to our mission and encourage interest and participation in the fulfillment of that mission through a variety of programs directed towards the adult learner.

4-H General, Animal shows to be held on Saturday

July 5 was devoted to bees and other pollinators as part of the "Beyond the Beaten Path" iRead program at the Shawneetown Public Library. Participants learned about different species of bees native to Illinois as well as honeybees. Did you know that honey bees have a barbed stinger, and once they sting you the venom sac is torn from them and they die -- but bumble bees have a smooth stinger and can sting multiple times?

Contract reached to fund ferry linking Kentucky, Illinois

Obituary of William “Bill” Cullum

William E. Cullum, 84, of rural route, Elizabethtown, IL passed away at his home on Thursday, June 16, 2022. William “Bill” Cullum was born in Hardin County on July 1, 1937 to Ralph and Mayme (Baugher) Cullum. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Rosiclare, IL. Bill graduated from Hardin County High School in 1955, then attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in engineering and physics.
